Beam Imaging Diagnostics for Heavy Ion Beam Fusion Experiments*
We are developing techniques for imaging beams in heavy-ion beam fusion experiments in the HIF-VNL in 2 to 4 transverse dimensions. The beams in current experiments range in energy from 50 keV to 2 MeV, with beam current densities from <10 to 200 mA/cm, and pulse lengths of 4 to 20 μs. The beam energy will range up to 10 MeV in near-future beam experiments. The imaging techniques, based on kapt...
متن کاملLithium Pellet Injection Experiments
A pellet enhanced performance (PEP) mode, showing significantly reduced core transport, is regularly obtained after the injection of deeply penetrating lithium pellets into Alcator C-Mod discharges. These transient modes, which typically persist about two energy confinement times, are characterized by a steep pressure gradient (4, <a/5) in the inner third of the plasma, indicating the presence ...
متن کاملBottle beam from a bare laser for single-beam trapping.
We demonstrate that a laser beam converging from a specific transverse mode is a bottle beam, as described in J. Opt. Soc. Am. B 20, 1220 (2003). To our knowledge, this is the first time that a bottle beam has been generated directly from a laser. By calculating the radiation forces on a dielectric Rayleigh sphere in the bottle beam, we show that the single beam can trap high-refractive-index p...
متن کاملinvestigation of single-user and multi-user detection methods in mc-cdma systems and comparison of their performances
Growth of pellet imperfections and laser imprint in direct drive inertial confinement fusion targets
Simple hydrodynamic models for describing the Richtmyer-Meshkov (RM) growth and the Rayleigh-Taylor (RT) instability are tested by simulation. The RM sharp boundary model predictions are compared with numerical simulations of targets with surface perturbations or stationary intensity perturbations. Agreement is found in the overall trends, but the specific behavior can be significantly differen...
